The Rega Solis Reference Stereo Power Amplifier

Next-Level Performance, Zero Compromise

The Rega Solis is a powerhouse engineered to drive even the most demanding loudspeaker systems with absolute authority. Over four years of obsessive development by Rega’s engineering team has resulted in a circuit that delivers a staggeringly accurate and engaging musical performance.

By utilising a separate chassis from the Mercury Pre-amplifier, the Solis isolates high-current power circuitry from sensitive low-voltage signals. This physical separation results in a significantly cleaner signal path, lower interference, and a level of transparency that integrated designs simply cannot match.

High-Current Amplifier Architecture

The Solis features a fully symmetrical circuit throughout. At its heart is a low-distortion, high-linearity common base voltage amplifier driver stage, designed to provide the massive voltage swings necessary for complex speaker loads.

The output stage is a "triple" high-current design utilising twelve Sanken 130-Watt 15A high-frequency transistors (six per channel). This ensures the Solis remains unfazed by "awkward" speaker impedances. The soundstage is meticulously controlled via optimised feedback levels and high-grade components, including Nichicon audio-grade capacitors and HTR non-inductive resistors, resulting in a tight, punchy, and incredibly detailed low-frequency response.

Advanced Dual-Mono Power Supply

Power is nothing without stability. The Solis utilises two custom-designed, low-noise 330VA toroidal transformers. These use high-grade fully bonded core material to eliminate mechanical hum, even under poor mains conditions.

When combined with 40,000µF of Rega K-Power smoothing capacitors per channel, the Solis effectively doubles its power output when moving from an 8Ω to a 4Ω load. The use of fast-recovery rectifier diodes throughout ensures a cleaner DC supply, while the low-level driver stages are fed by a dedicated, regulated symmetrical tracking power supply for maximum sonic purity.

Intelligent Protection & Purity

To protect your investment and your speakers, the Solis features an extensive protection circuit monitoring DC levels and operating temperatures. A microcontroller-based "slow start" and supervisory circuit manages the in-rush current from the two massive transformers. Crucially, these control circuits are galvanically isolated with their own dedicated power supply, ensuring they never interfere with the audio signal path.

Balanced vs. Unbalanced: The Rega Philosophy

While the Solis includes high-performance XLR balanced inputs, Rega’s core engineering remains a high-fidelity unbalanced topology. Rega recommends RCA connections for the shortest, purest signal path in domestic environments. The XLR inputs are provided for professional studio applications or long cable runs, implemented with additional dedicated circuitry to maintain Rega's rigorous performance standards without compromising the core signal.

PMA Magazine - November 2025

Prelaunch Review

"In the end, it didn’t matter what genre I threw at the Rega stack. From raucous rock to grand operatic productions, the Mercury and Solis never sounded overwhelmed or out of their element. I played heavy music through them from Iced Earth to Tool just below the threshold of ear pain and the Rega combo never lost steam. They just gave me more bass, more surprises, more head-bopping awesomeness." Read the full review.

AV Forums - December 2025

9/10

"The Mercury and Solis are the ultimate expression of a philosophy that is just as present at the foot of the Rega range as it is here. These are still joyously musical and easy to live with devices, simply ones where every aspect of their engineering is as good as it can possibly be. The result is an utter joy to use and live with." Read the full review.

Editiors Choice

"The Rega Mercury and Solis are genuine high end amplifiers, they are built and finished to a very high standard and they deliver very high resolution sound. The DAC onboard the Mercury can be beaten by the better standalone examples but those cost at least half as much as this preamp alone, so that it’s understandable. As a line stage the Mercury is remarkably good, hugely transparent yet almost devoid of the sense of it being powered." Read the full review.

Sound Advice - December 2025

Exceptional

"In effect, what you see here is the ultimate expression of what Rega believes is important in an amplifier. The Mercury and Solis combine staggering performance with real world forgiveness in a way that makes it look easy when it really, really isn’t. They are masterpieces, and some of the very best of their kind. " Read the full review.
