The Rega Mercury represents the pinnacle of analogue and digital control. Designed with a singular, uncompromising objective; to create the ultimate audio pre-amplifier, the Mercury serves as the high-performance heart of any world-class hi-fi system.

Hand-crafted in the UK, the Mercury is engineered to reveal the true potential of your music. By achieving an ultra-low noise floor, it delivers an exceptional dynamic range that uncovers the finest nuances in your recordings, from the subtlest breath of a vocalist to the explosive scale of a full orchestra.

As the natural partner to the Solis Power Amplifier, the Mercury is the culmination of nearly four decades of Rega’s relentless pursuit of excellence in solid-state electronics. It stands as a testament to their engineering heritage, offering a level of musical transparency and authority that only a flagship reference component can provide.

The Rega Mercury Reference Pre-Amplifier: A No-Compromise Masterpiece

The Rega Mercury is the culmination of nearly four decades of electronic engineering excellence. Designed with a singular, "no-compromise" objective, it serves as the ultimate high-performance hub for a world-class audio system. By achieving an incredibly low noise floor and massive dynamic range, the Mercury reveals the true musical potential of your source components.

Unrivalled Analogue Circuitry

At the heart of the Mercury is a discrete, fully symmetrical, high-linearity common base voltage amplifier. This sophisticated topology—utilising ultra-low noise FET (Field Effect Transistor) transistors—delivers necessary voltage and current drive with minimal distortion. Fans of the Rega Aura MC Phono Stage will recognise this circuit design, as it shares the same high-end input stage architecture.

To ensure the signal remains as pure as possible, the main outputs are DC coupled, removing the need for output coupling capacitors that can often colour the sound.

Precision Volume Control & Symmetrical Signal Path

Borrowing from the legendary Osiris integrated amplifier, the Mercury features the Alps Blue Velvet RK27 active volume control. However, Rega has evolved this design by pairing it with symmetrical common base driver stage amplifiers. This ensures the signal path—from the DAC's analogue output right through to the pre-amplifier output—remains entirely symmetrical for perfect channel balance and timing.

High-Performance Digital Circuitry (Dual Wolfson DACs)

The Mercury isn’t just an analogue powerhouse; it’s a sophisticated digital hub.

Asynchronous USB: Features galvanic isolation and dedicated power supplies. Dual high-stability oscillator modules provide ultra-low jitter for both PCM and DSD data.

Dual Wolfson DACs: Rega has opted for parallel-connected Wolfson DACs, chosen specifically for their superior "musical" performance over modern alternatives. These feed directly into the symmetrical analogue filter stages, maintaining total signal integrity.

Power Supply: 60% More Headroom

A pre-amplifier is only as good as its power source. The Mercury utilises a massive toroidal transformer feeding a discrete, symmetrical tracking power supply. To maximise sonic headroom, Rega has engineered the Mercury to run at a voltage 60% higher than typical pre-amplifiers, ensuring effortless dynamics and control even during the most demanding musical passages.

A Dedicated "Mini-Solis" Headphone Amp

Unlike many pre-amps where the headphone socket is an afterthought, the Mercury features a dedicated headphone amplifier that operates like a "mini-Solis" power amp. It uses the same symmetrical driver circuitry, providing high current drive that can power both low and high-impedance audiophile headphones with ease.

Balanced vs. Unbalanced: The Rega Philosophy

While the Mercury includes high-quality XLR balanced connections for long cable runs, Rega’s core circuit remains an unbalanced (single-ended) topology. Rega recommends unbalanced RCA connections for the shortest, purest signal path in a domestic setting, but provides the XLR options with additional dedicated circuitry for those who require them.

Specifications at a Glance

  • Volume Control: Alps Blue Velvet RK27 (Active topology)
  • DAC: Dual Parallel Wolfson DACs (PCM & DSD support)

PMA Magazine - November 2025

Prelaunch Review

"In the end, it didn’t matter what genre I threw at the Rega stack. From raucous rock to grand operatic productions, the Mercury and Solis never sounded overwhelmed or out of their element. I played heavy music through them from Iced Earth to Tool just below the threshold of ear pain and the Rega combo never lost steam. They just gave me more bass, more surprises, more head-bopping awesomeness." Read the full review.

AV Forums - December 2025

9/10

"The Mercury and Solis are the ultimate expression of a philosophy that is just as present at the foot of the Rega range as it is here. These are still joyously musical and easy to live with devices, simply ones where every aspect of their engineering is as good as it can possibly be. The result is an utter joy to use and live with." Read the full review.

Editiors Choice

"The Rega Mercury and Solis are genuine high end amplifiers, they are built and finished to a very high standard and they deliver very high resolution sound. The DAC onboard the Mercury can be beaten by the better standalone examples but those cost at least half as much as this preamp alone, so that it’s understandable. As a line stage the Mercury is remarkably good, hugely transparent yet almost devoid of the sense of it being powered." Read the full review.

Sound Advice - December 2025

Exceptional

"In effect, what you see here is the ultimate expression of what Rega believes is important in an amplifier. The Mercury and Solis combine staggering performance with real world forgiveness in a way that makes it look easy when it really, really isn’t. They are masterpieces, and some of the very best of their kind. " Read the full review.
