Part of Wharfedale's Heritage series, the Super Denton is based on vintage designs from the company's history but features cutting-edge drive unit, cabinet, and crossover technology.

The Denton 80 anniversary model, the Denton 85, and the trend-setting Linton model launched the Heritage line in 2014 and rekindled interest in the classic big stand mount loudspeaker. Not many loudspeaker manufacturers can lay claim to a greater history than Wharfedale, and the Heritage series highlights this. It was recently enhanced with the high-end Dovedale model, which marked the return of UK manufacturing.

The original Denton stood out for its compact size which made it a popular choice for bookshelf speakers at a time when hi-fi speakers were usually large and bulky. Most Denton models had a two-way design with a mid/bass driver and a treble unit. However, in 1971, Wharfedale introduced the Denton 3 with a three-way driver configuration featuring separate bass, midrange and treble units. The Denton 3 was the smallest three-way speaker available and reportedly delivered the performance of much larger speaker systems.

Today, the Wharfedale Super Denton pays homage to this legacy with its traditional, simple, and beautiful design that incorporates advanced technology for optimum performance. The speaker features a classic hand-veneered finish with an inset front baffle and traditional cloth grille, staying true to the Wharfedale tradition.

The Super Denton is one of the smallest three-way hi-fi speakers due to its compact size measuring at 360 x 246 x 275mm (HxWxD). The midrange and treble units are positioned off-center to maintain the speaker's small size while scattering reflections from the cabinet edges. The cabinet features strategically placed bracing and internal acoustic damping through layers of long-hair fibre, and the midrange and treble units have their own rear enclosures. The cabinet uses a combination of woods to scatter panel resonances, and the speaker comes in mirror-imaged pairs for accurate stereo imaging. The cabinet is wrapped in hand-matched wood veneers for a furniture-grade finish.

The Super Denton boasts advanced drivers that surpass any previous model with the Denton name. The 6.5” (165mm) bass unit features a premium cast chassis that is specially tuned to the cabinet for impressive bass extension down to 40Hz, below the fundamental 'E1' tuning of a standard bass guitar. This driver produces engaging definition and expression for bass and lower-midrange frequencies, bringing instruments and vocals to life in an astonishing way for a speaker of this size.

The midrange features a 2” (50mm) dome design, inspired by Wharfedale's award-winning EVO4 project. This driver delivers upper-midrange and lower-treble frequencies with exceptional performance, providing a seamless transition from the fundamental tones carried by the bass unit to the harmonic overtones higher in frequency. The wide dispersion of the dome diaphragm ensures clarity and finesse in the musical performance, creating a lively and engaging sound that brings the music to life.

The new 1” (25mm) soft dome treble unit in the Sonic model is designed to provide detail and air at high frequencies. It has been inspired by the Wharfedale Dovedale model and comes with ceramic motor system and rear chamber. This chamber minimises the resonant frequency to a level below the crossover region to ensure a more natural and seamless transition between the drive units.

The Sonic model has three drivers that are neatly arranged for a smooth integration into the 3-way design. The crossover network is highly researched and incorporates air-core coils and polypropylene capacitors in the midrange and treble circuits. This guarantees distortion-free performance.

This model has been developed with a level of intricacy and attention to detail that is comparable to a product twice its humble price tag, according to the lead designer. The grille has internal shaping to maximise the power performance of the drive units and avoid interference from reflections from the edges of the cabinet.

With all these features, the result is a musical output that is suitable for all genres of music and sources, whether analogue or digital. You can be assured that SUPER DENTON will provide delightful and satisfying musical entertainment for years to come.
