As the floorstanding evolution of PMC’s entry-level range, it takes the brand’s legendary "from studio to home" philosophy into larger listening spaces without demanding extra floor space.

"The prodigy5 doesn’t sound like a neutral and impartial loudspeaker striving to render every last note with forensic accuracy. Rather, it’s fast, engaging, expressive and dynamic – with bags of power and passion. Yet it has poise and delicacy, and so is a great all-rounder at the price" - Hi-Fi Choice

Why it’s a HiFiSound favourite:in the same way we love the Prodigy 1, the Prodigy5 pairs minimalist aesthetic appeal with astounding scale and punch. The extended transmission line gives basslines a visceral weight and dynamic grip without ever overpowering the lightning-fast midrange clarity PMC is famous for. Whether you are upgrading your main system or stepping up from bookshelf units, we invite you to book a demo and hear the dramatic difference in depth for yourself.

Please Note: Speaker grills available seperately.

This is a phenomenal communicator, packed with verve and fun, combining a sweet, open treble with wide dispersion to provide a vast listening ‘sweet-spot’ with excellent focus.

It also delivers transparent, natural vocals and instrumental sound, and an untainted, solid bottom end.

Thanks to an extended Advanced Transmission Line with twin Laminair vents for smoother airflow, the prodigy5 lives up to its name with prodigious bass power. That is combined with tight, clean control for a really dynamic, thrilling presentation of the true weight of the music, almost regardless of where you place the speakers in the room.

Designed to reveal all the quality of your favoured electronics, the slender prodigy5 will blend into any space, with the option of grilles available for those who like their speakers even more discreet.

Why choose the Prodigy5 over the Prodigy1?

While both models share the exact same studio-derived drivers and Laminair™ vent technology, the Prodigy5 features a larger cabinet housing an extended 1.96-metre Advanced Transmission Line (ATL™). This allows it to reach down to a subterranean 35Hz (compared to the Prodigy1’s 50Hz), delivering a noticeably deeper, richer soundstage and effortless low-end authority that fills medium-to-large rooms with ease. Better yet, because its footprint takes up no more physical room than a Prodigy1 on a dedicated stand, you get full-scale floorstander performance without sacrificing your living space.

So what is Advanced Transmission Line (ATL)?

PMC’s Advanced Transmission Line (ATL) technology uses a long, highly damped interior tunnel behind the drive unit to absorb unwanted mid and high frequencies while allowing low frequencies to exit the cabinet in-phase with the front speaker cone.

Core Mechanics & Benefits

  • Enhanced Bass Output: Operates over a two-octave bandwidth centred on the line's resonant frequency (where acoustic length equals 1/4 wavelength), significantly boosting low-end performance.
  • Massively Lower Distortion: Air inside the line stiffens and couples to the drive unit, increasing the cone's effective moving mass to lower its resonant frequency and tightly control driver motion.
  • Consistent Response at All Volumes: Unlike ported speakers that rely on level-dependent Helmholtz resonance, ATL maintains its full, extended frequency response even at low listening levels.

Key PMC ATL Innovations

  • Custom Acoustic Foam: Lines the interior to absorb mid/high frequencies, dampen unwanted resonances, and slow the speed of sound to increase the apparent acoustic length of smaller cabinets.
  • Laminair Vents: Divides outgoing air into channels with a larger hydraulic diameter to smooth airflow, eliminating turbulence and port "chuffing."
  • Targeted Resonant Chambers: Internal tuned chambers selectively absorb stubborn resonant frequencies without needing excess foam that could make bass sound overly dry.
  • Co-Engineered Drive Units: Custom in-house drivers designed specifically to work in tandem with the unique pressure parameters of transmission line cabinets.

PMC Prodigy5, A Force To Be Reckoned With

"I was very much impressed by its capabilities, you look at this speaker and you see a tiny speaker tiny floor Stander and yet it does not sound tiny it has the tonal weight the mid-range finesse the base capabilities of a much larger speaker now of course in in fact a much larger speaker with a 10-in woofer or a 15inch woofer will sound bigger and play louder with even lower Distortion I'm not saying it's a giant killer I'm saying considering its size it can really surprise you surprise me over and over again but it's not like it now the world doesn't need larger speakers at all no they still definitely have their place but it's a you know it is that speaker for people who do not consider themselves a who just want a really nice sounding system they don't want fuss this definitely goes on the recommend list" Watch the full YouTube Review.

"I have no choice but to give this most affordable of PMC floorstanding speakers a solid thumbs up. These compact, understated looking monitors do what it says on the tin and bring the studio sound into the home in no small measure. They bring the music closer by projecting it in with scale, dynamics and pace. There may be a better alternative at the price but I’ve yet to hear it." Read the full review.

A British Audiophile - November 2023

"PMC have made excellent design choices to get as much performance out of the prodigy5 as possible offering their key Technologies for a fraction of the price of their 25i and fact ranges. Every time I encounter a well designed transmission line speaker or one of its variants it confirms two things they offer a stunningly deep clean bass and a lack of bleed through to allow the mids to shine the Tweeter marries up to the midwoofer and transmission line to offer a beautifully balanced natural and uncoloured sound sure you can spend more money to get more performance but almost every speaker has some coloration or weakness that will divide opinion I'm not saying that these are perfect and will suit everybody no speaker will but given their price I can't point to a particular weakness and that's extremely rare and that's why the PMC Prodigy5s get an outstanding from this channel" Watch the full YouTube Review.
