The DM36 is a completely redesigned digital-to-analog converter (DAC) that features an advanced ESS ES9068A chipset, offering a resolution of up to PCM 384 and DSD 256. This upgrade significantly enhances overall performance compared to its predecessor, the DM35, delivering a sound that is richer in detail and more lifelike, with improved three-dimensionality and an expanded soundstage.

The DM36 replaces the former DM35 DAC in our modular lineup, and the new model's name reflects the integration of this updated DAC module, as detailed below:

  • I25 DAC DM36
  • I25 PRISMA DM36
  • I35 DAC DM36
  • I35 PRISMA DM36
  • PRE35 DAC DM36
  • PRE35 PRISMA DM36

The DM36 includes 4 Toslink optical inputs and 2 RCA coaxial inputs, supporting resolutions of up to 192kHz/24 bit. It also features a 1 USB B input for computer connectivity, allowing for resolutions up to 384kHz/32 bit and DSD256 (11.2MHz).

An RCA coaxial output offers native output for digital inputs and allows for selectable 48 or 96kHz output for analog sources.

One notable new feature of the DM36 is the PCM up-sampling option. When activated, this feature enables 16/44.1 kHz and 24/48 kHz signals to be up-sampled to 24/88.2 kHz and 24/96 kHz, respectively, enhancing internal digital conversion and output quality. However, it’s important to note that files at 24/96 kHz and 24/192 kHz will not be up-sampled, regardless of the settings.

Additionally, the DM36 boasts full MQA processing capabilities with both Prisma and Primare CD sources. MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) is a recognized British technology that captures the sound of the original master recording. The master MQA file is fully authenticated and optimized for streaming or downloading.

With the recent update to the Prisma application, which includes integration with Qobuz and Tidal, the Prisma models equipped with the DM36 module will enable a final MQA unfold to 384 kHz for Tidal Master files. For other Prisma models, including those utilizing the DM35 DAC module, the update facilitates the first full MQA unfold to resolutions up to 96 kHz, supports Qobuz resolutions up to 192 kHz, and ensures gapless playback for both platforms.

MQA CD playback is also supported in our CD players and transports, including the CD15 Prisma, DD15, CD35 Prisma, and DD35 when connected to the DM36 via Toslink optical or RCA coaxial digital output.

Please note: either the DM36 or the DM35 module is required to use the Prisma module.
