Harbeth SHL5plus XD2 Standmount Speakers

he Harbeth Super HL5plus XD2 is a high-end stand-mount loudspeaker that represents the latest evolution of a classic design from the renowned British audio company. It builds upon the legacy of Harbeth's BBC monitor heritage, known for its emphasis on natural sound reproduction and exceptional midrange clarity. Key features of the SHL5plus XD2 include: RADIAL4™ Technology: At the core of the speaker is Harbeth's proprietary 200mm RADIAL4™ mid-bass driver. This cone material is a special blend of injection-molded polypropylene, engineered to provide outstanding detail, clarity, and dynamics. Upgraded Crossover: The "XD2" in the name signifies an "Extra Definition" series, which features a newly refined crossover design. This upgrade improves the seamless integration between the drivers, leading to a more cohesive and natural sound across the frequency range. Three-Way Design: The speaker is a three-way system, featuring the RADIAL4™ mid-bass driver, a 25mm ferrofluid-cooled tweeter, and a 20mm titanium dome "supertweeter." This combination allows for an expansive and well-defined frequency response. Thin-Wall Cabinet Design: Consistent with Harbeth's tradition, the cabinet is made from thin MDF walls, a design principle inherited from BBC research. This construction, damped with bitumen mats, is intended to move cabinet resonances down the frequency range and reduce their amplitude, contributing to the speaker's signature sound. Aesthetic and Build: The cabinets are handcrafted with high-quality real wood veneers, meticulously selected and matched for a luxurious and timeless appearance. The Harbeth SHL5plus XD2 is known for its tonal accuracy, transparent sound, and ability to create a deep and wide soundstage. It is a speaker designed for music lovers who prioritize a faithful and emotionally engaging listening experience, particularly with acoustic, classical, and vocal music. While often associated with more traditional genres, it is also praised for its surprisingly dynamic and powerful bass response, making it versatile enough to handle a wide range of musical styles.
