Chord Company SignatureXL Speaker Cable Banana-Banana Pair

SignatureXL is the latest version of one of Chord's longest running (and universally loved) products. The original Signature was their first high-frequency shielded speaker cable (2004) and marked a massive leap in speaker cable performance.  It was also the biggest, stiffest, brightest cable they’d ever made. The conductors were oxygen free copper, the insulation was gas foamed Polyethylene, Shielding was a three layer braid and foil combination, effective to high frequencies and the outer jacket a flexible polyethylene. It was just flexible enough to fit into a system. It didn’t need a press release or a review, it took off so fast by word of mouth, that for a while there was almost a permanent waiting list.   It remained unchanged for about ten years, until Chord could apply improved building techniques and materials such as more efficient shielding, silver-plated conductors and PTFE insulation that would produce a more neutral tonal characteristic and a cable better able to carry detail, dynamics and timbre. This became Signature Reference.   Technical Specifications: Conductor: Silver-plated, high purity OFC Insulation: XLPE Configuration: Twisted pair Shielding: Individually shielded positive and minus conductors. High density foil and 95% coverage metal braid. Translucent PVC outer jacket AWG: 10 mm2: 5.26 Diameter: 2 x 8.5mm

Chord Company EpicXL Speaker Cable

EpicXL combines elements of Chord's Epic and Signature Reference/XL speaker cables.  A specially chosen soft PVC internal jacket is added to correctly space the shielding and minimise mechanical noise.  A high density braid and foil shield is applied to each set of conductors and this is in turn protected by a translucent outer jacket, again chosen to reduce unwanted mechanical noise.  The conductors are twisted together and clamped in place before being terminated with either banana or spade connectors.  By separately shielding the positive and negative conductors of each speaker cable run, we can produce a version of Epic that sounds markedly more refined and musically coherent. It’s particularly good at carrying micro-dynamics and detail and brings great separation and definition to instruments and voices. EpicXL takes a crucial step forwards in performance by using separate shields for each conductor.  That means neutrality, less noise, a bigger and more immersive soundstage and most of all, it means getting new joy from your existing music collection. Material technology is constantly developing and improving and alternatives to PTFE are now available. While the high cost of Taylon® prevents us from using this in our Epic range, we were able to find a version of XLPE (Cross-linked Polyethylene) that following extensive listening tests, proved clearly better than PTFE. Every set of EpicXL speaker cable is built to order and terminated at Chord's UK factory with ChordOhmic 4mm banana plugs or ChordOhmic spade connectors.

Chord Company SignatureX Tuned ARAY XLR-XLR Interconnect

Chord Company SignatureX Tuned ARAY is hand built in the UK and has been part of the range since 1998. Performance is consistently high, thanks to the constantly evolving design, always taking advantage of the latest technological improvements to keep it at the cutting edge. While not as strikingly beautiful as the previous acrylic versions, they produce a markedly better performance. There’s a degree of extra clarity and a reduction in mechanical noise.  Enough of an improvement for customers with older cables with acrylic plug surrounds to return their cables to be fitted with the PTFE version. The hand-built SignatureX Tuned ARAY tone arm cable can be fitted with straight or right-angle arm connectors. 1.2m length as standard

It also uses multi-tiered shielding systems for all conductor pairs reducing interaction between the different signals that DIN cables need to carry. This low noise high bandwidth shielding ensures that the listener obtains the maximum performance from Naim Audio products. The design, shielding and ARAY geometry delivers the rhythm, groove and soul of the music – something that Naim users have always enjoyed from their equipment. EpicX ARAY DIN should also be auditioned with older DIN-equipped products such as Quad. The results can be quite staggering.
